Field Day mix 06 – Connan Mockasin

Field Day mix 06 – Connan Mockasin

Our sixth exclusive Field Day mix is a sun-kissed beauty, compiled by one of the most exciting avant-pop prospect’s around, star-in-the-making and all-round musical prodigy Connan Mockasin…

Since signing to Erol Alkan’s Phantasy Sound label back in 2009, this New Zealand-born Brian Jones lookalike has taken increasingly interesting musical twists and turns, building up an ever broadening fan base with his past two albums, ‘Please Turn Me Into The Snat’ (2010) and ‘Forever Dolphin Love’ (2011) justly winning critical praise across the board from NME to Drowned in Sound.

And he really knows how to bring alive; a recent tour supporting Warpaint has confirmed Connan’s chops as one of the brightest young talents on these shores, as we’re sure his performance at Field Day will testify.

This mix is a pure joy from start to finish, a sun-kissed ride through lush soul, ornate classicism and wide-sweeping orchestral pop, perfect for lazy summer days and long warm nights…

Tell us about the mix you’ve recorded for Field Day?
“It’s a bit mix and match. Some of the music I’d never heard before. I’ve recorded a couple of additions of my own in there too – see if you can spot them.”

Any exclusives or particular favourites on there?
“Yes, ‘Mattresses, Masks and Pearls by Alejandro Jodorowsky.”

What can we expect from your show at Field Day?
“A new drummer between now and then, a young bass player, a 56 year old guitar/keyboardist and as many Japanese girls with kimonos in London I can find.”

What else are you up to?
“Painting for an exhibition in London and Paris, finishing a record with my friend and starting my tour from September.”
