Tortoise
Chicago’s post-rock kings Tortoise grace the stage at Field Day 2012.
Formed in the late 1980′s the group have released 6 studio albums over the last 15 years, that have helped cement Tortoise as one of the forerunners of post-rock. Tortoise have drawn on influences as far reaching as the Chicago out-jazz scene, drum and bass, electro, lounge music, dub and modernist innovations.
Heralded as helping shift indie away from the grunge ‘rut’ that was 1994, Tortoise were one of the first indie bands to release an album of remixes. Their focus is on working as a unit, and not having a specific front man. This collective approach makes their music hypnotic and pulsing, the dynamics of the music even more powerful.
